Center for Family Business & Enterpreneurship

The Centers of Excellence are the pillars of the institution. The areas of work of the center is very carefully crafted and executed. The center of Excellence ion Family Business and Entrepreneurship is focused on carrying out research on family business in India and Asia at a larger level. Foundation has signed MoU with Witten Institute of Family Studies (WIFU), under Witten University, Germany for collaboration to carry out joint research. WIFU research Director, faculty will guide the researchers and students in India on specific topics. The exchange programs for the faculty and students are also envisaged for better gathering and distributing knowledge in the domain.

The Center is also establishing Centers of excellence in Malaysia and Cambodia. The Foundation of Malaysian Institute of Export and International Trade, Malaysia and BELTI International University, Cambodia also will establish the Centres of Excellence, with the guidance of the Foundation.

Apart from carrying out research, the center also offers many short and long term courses for the family business owners, successors, and the first generation entrepreneurs.

Centre for Family Business is an organization by itself with specific objectives in focus under the University. CFB aims to study the family business organizations on various aspects of family business.

Vision:

To become a Centre of knowledge in family business in Asia and disseminate the knowledge to betterment of family businesses across Asia.

Mission:

1. Conduct research, publish, and disseminate the acquired knowledge.
2. Offer solutions for family businesses through the expertise of research and consulting.
3. Offer short term and long term courses to educate the second generation entrepreneurs and possible successors in the family.
4. Organize international conferences, seminars and workshops for Indian and global family business owners, consultants, academicians, and students.

Approach:

The center will identify and conduct research on family businesses by meeting the founders, CEO’s and other managerial staff to collect data on the said objectives of the research. The same will be published as case studies and articles in Indian and International Journals.

Year 1 – 2021 October to September 2022

• Minimum of two case studies to be published in reputed journals in India.
• Create a consortium of members (family business owners) and find a sponsor for the center for next three years.
• Create a corpus fund by collecting the membership fee on an annual basis with a commitment for three years of membership.
• Offer short term courses for family business

Year 2 – 2022 October to September 2023.

• Run a full pledged research center with researchers and secretarial staff to cover 20 case studies of family business (primarily members of the consortium) and publish the papers as and when they are ready.
• Organize a national level conference on the theme of “family business” and disseminate the knowledge of the center.
• Offer short and long courses for family business • Create a network of family businesses across Asia.

Year 3 – 2023 October to September 2024

• Offer short and full time courses for family business
• Organize International conference on Family Business
• Publish book and several case studies on family business.

Prof. W Gibb Dyer

W. Gibb Dyer (Ph.D MIT) is the O. Leslie and Dorothy Stone Professor in the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University. He has been a visiting faculty member at the University of New Hampshire and IESE in Barcelona, Spain and was a visiting scholar at the University of Bath in England. He has published 9 books and over 50 articles and his research has been featured in Fortune, The Wall Street Journal and Fast Company. His recent book, The Family Edge, focuses on how “family capital” supports business growth. In 2008 he was given the outstanding faculty award from the Marriott School. He has been ranked as one of the top ten scholars in the world in the field of family business. He and his wife Theresa have seven children and twenty grandchildren.

Dr Tom A Rusen

Managing Director WIFU / CEO WIFU – Foundation, Born 1974, managing director of the Witten Institute for Family Business (WIFU) at the Witten / Herdecke University. He also directs the non-profit WIFU Foundation as an executive chairman. After completing a degree in economics at the Witten / Herdecke University, he spent several years working for the inhouse consultancy of a large multinational industrial corporation, and for restructuring and recovery consultancies. He has been honorary professor at the economics faculty of the Witten / Herdecke University since 2015, and a visiting professor at Lucerne University since 2017. The main areas of his research, teaching and publication include the examination of conflict and crisis dynamics, structural risks in family businesses, mental models in business families, and family strategies and their evolution over generations. In his coaching and consultancy work, he assists family businesses and business families in developing practical solutions as part of succession processes, conflict and crisis situations, and the development of family strategies and family management systems.

Prof. Sandiran Ramasamy

Managing Partner, University Razak.

Santhiran brings with him 30 years of experience in the field of education as he has spent a great number of years working in the management sector. He is an expert in the fields of Leadership in Education, Business Strategy & Quality Assurance, Compliance and Sustainable Profitability. He has been a key player in turning around the recruitment market for education institutions, both domestically and internationally. He has secured countless international and transnational franchise agreements for higher education institutions in the Asian, Middle Eastern and African markets. Santhiran has held various Senior Management and Development roles in colleges, university colleges and full fledged universities. Santhiran has also been conducting industrial training for the past 15 years within Malaysia and abroad in the fields of logistics, supply chain management, educational training and international trade education. He obtained his Masters’ degree in Marketing from the University of Northumbria, UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from UKM. He also possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. He is currently pursuing his DBA from Poland via UiTM and sits in the Advisory Boards of a few colleges and universities.
